Mimi's Christmas Scarf

I finished this scarf as a Christmas present for Mimi to match her winter coat. A North Carolina native, Mimi is averse to the cold, so hopefully this thick chunky scarf will keep her nice and warm when she visits me here in Michigan.

Yarn
Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in Dusty Blue, Taupe, and Chocolate

Needles
Size 19, 15mm

Pattern
Using one strand of each color yarn held together, cast on 8 stitches. Work in garter stitch until piece measures about 65 inches. Bind off. Weave in ends.

I've seen the Vanna's choice yarn at JoAnn's but haven't worked with it; what do you think of it, compared to some other brands? Also, I miss living near a Hobby Lobby! They always seemed to have such a huge selection.

If you like to knit rectangular things, two suggestions: try the Punk Rock Backpack from Debbie Stoller's Stitch N Bitch (it looks complicated but is really all rectangles) and also get a copy of Mason Dixon Knitting. Many pages of square and rectangular goodness. :-)

I've only been knitting for a couple of weeks, so I'm really not very familiar with very many types of yarn. I feel like I need to get better before I go to a yarn store and buy some of the more expensive brands. I don't know why—even if I mess up, I can always frog the project so that I don't waste the yarn.

Thanks for the square/rectangle ideas!
