Insanity Is...

... a patchwork quilt made entirely out of sock yarn.

But that's just what I've started. Inspired by Shelly Kang's sock yarn blanket, I have taken five of the seven yarns from Little Ford's Box o' Sox and started my own. Why only five? One of the missing two yarns was not fingering weight. The other was the yarn from my Virgin Socks and after my socks and Ford's socks, there were no leftovers. I'm pretty sad about this, but since the quilt will take years, I figure that once my socks get holes in them I can unravel them and use the yarn for the blanket.

Kang's blanket consists of 736 of these little mitered squares. Her squares are smaller than mine—I cast on 41 stitches for each square rather than 31. Still, I figure that I'll need at least 500 squares for my blanket. I am 1% of the way finished with this project, but I'm not worried about it. It'll get done when it gets done. In the meantime, anyone want me to knit them some socks?

For these five mitered squares, I earned another Ravelympics medal. It occurred to me that you non-Raveling folk may be wondering, "Who is the handsome dude featured on the Ravelympics medals?" This is Adonis Dionysius Bobicus Maximus, head of the IRC (International Ravelympic Committee). I suspect that he is a distant relative of Bob, the Boston Terrier who owns Jess and Casey, Ravelry's founders. If you have some extra time on your hands, I recommend that you click here. Highly entertaining.

In other Ravelympics news, I have cast on for the Jill Nye Hat, and the Tweedy Mitts are no longer kicking my butt so they should be finished today. After the Ravelympics, I must start some birthday and Christmas knitting. For myself, I'll be making the Lace Ribbon Scarf and Charmed Fingerless Mitts. Thanks to all of you who voted!

You can knit me a pair I like the colors in your quilt. You have inspired me to do the same with my swatches.
