Row 296

Anyone else been following the Yarn Harlot this week? If not, I'll give you a couple of minutes to read her last two posts, "Public Service Announcement" (June 28) and "Continued" (June 29).

Okay, are you back? I don't know Stephanie, but I can completely commiserate with her right now. I can especially identify with this part:

There's some sort of charm on it where no matter how much I knit, more remains—and here's the really creepy part—it looks like I'm making progress, but I'm not.

And this part:

With this shawl, I can see that I'm making progress. I can see that I've got 14 more little leaves around the edge, but somehow, even though I'm obviously creating more knitting, there is still always more to be accomplished.

Why? Because I'm knitting this:

I know this Lace Kerchief Scarf isn't anywhere close to the mammoth Summer in Kansas shawl that Stephanie is working on, but then again, my skills are nowhere near hers, either. All I know is that I feel as if I have been knitting this blue yarn forever, and I'm on row 296, and I'm a little over halfway done, and I can't believe that I still have half to go, and I've already knit the 8-row unmemorizable-because-it-changes-on-every-row lace chart 37 times, and I don't want to knit it 35 more times, and I most definitely don't want to knit 280 more rows.

So I am going outside to mulch the flower beds.
