Me Me Me

I have been knitting a lot lately. It's the season for knitting. It's cold. It's dark. It's cold and dark. It's hibernating weather, and along with that comes a lot of knitting. Not just any knitting, either. Traditional knitting. Cables. Tweed. That sort of thing.

It's also the season for giving. Christmas is less than a month away. Many a knitter is frantically knitting away, hoping to finish that sweater for her husband or boyfriend. Hoping to have a pair of socks done for every member of the family. Making a knitting schedule so as to finish on time. Foolish, foolish people. I have been there, I have done that, and I am not going back to that dark, dark place. I am proud to say that everything currently on the needles is for... me.

The first is Shoormal, a delicious scarf I fell in love with as soon as the pictures showed up on Ravelry. I had to wait a few more weeks for Gudrun Johnston's book to come out (in e-book format; I don't know if the printed version is yet available), but as soon as it did, I cast on.



I am knitting it in Plymouth Encore Chunky Tweed. It's pretty soft due to the acrylic content, but this also makes me a little leery as I'm not sure it's going to block well. It doesn't need to block as well as a lace shawl, but it does need to get flattened or else it won't lay right. This is my first time working with this yarn, so only time will tell.

November is cable month in the Sock Knitters Anonymous Sockdown! Challenge. I chose a pretty simple pattern, Interlochen. It's just a 2 x 2 rib with cables thrown in every eight rows. Easy peasy.



Good light is hard to come by these days in Michigan, so pictures do not do justice to the yarn. It's a lovely semi-solid purple color. When you look at individual stitches, you see indigo, lavender, violet, and pink, and the yarn almost seems to glow. I really recommend you try Kelpie Fibers. Great little indie dyer.

My third project is Magic Mirror by Kristel Nyberg. Tons and tons of cabley goodness. I love these mittens, and I love the Cascade 220 Superwash Sport I am using. Much softer than Cascade Superwash, as the yarn is 100% merino.



This is the most complex cable pattern I have worked. It's not hard, but you have to pay attention, because this is what happens when you don't.
