Heatwaves

No, we're not having an actual heatwave here, although a few seventy-five degree days sound really good right now.

No, it's my first pair of socks of 2011!

Heatwaves

Pattern: Waving Lace Socks by Evelyn Clark; Favorite Socks
Yarn
: Araucania Ranco Multy in Heatwave
Needles: Size 1, 2.25 mm
Ravel them!

One thing that I really loved about making these socks is that the lace pattern, although 20 rows long, is easily memorized. I love it when I don't have to haul a pattern around with me!

I also loved this colorway of the Ranco Multy. At first I was afraid that the variegation would obscure the lace pattern, but as you can see, that didn't happen. Ranco Multy does have its drawbacks. It's not the softest sock yarn available, and it's not superwash. But I just love Araucania's colorways and the yarn does soften a bit with washing.

I am participating in the Great Sock Off of 2011. The idea behind this Ravelry group is that its members support one another in their quest to knit a pair of socks each month. So far, I'm 1/1! Another related KAL is the Sock Stash Knitdown that is going on in the Stash and Burn group. Stash and Burn groupies participating in this challenge are focused on knitting down their sock stash, whether it's by knitting socks or using the sock yarn for other items. In addition to the pair of socks each month, I also hope to knit some fingering-weight scarves, mittens, and cowls throughout the year.

Do you have a ginormous sock yarn stash? Come join us!

And finally, before I leave, I gotta throw the Detroit car industry some love. Outstanding commercial!
